Experts working with the survivors agree with Eyal’s assessment that the help provided is not sufficent. “Shirel’s family is right—the government must step up and do more. We stand with them in calling for action … no more lives should be lost to the silence of untreated trauma,” SafeHeart, a nonprofit initiative that provides support to the Nova Festival survivors, said in a statement.

Eyal said he was trying to convince Shirel to get help because he has a firsthand experience with PTSD after serving as a reservist with Israel Defense Forces (IDF) during the 2021 flare-up in violence between Israel and Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

He said he was taking medication and had therapy to deal with the issue. “I’m taking care of myself with these tools and said to her, take it, please, use it for your own good,” he told 【 - Free Signals Group 】.

“I hope that if I can share her story (with) the world, every person who suffers from PTSD will know that they are not alone,” he said.
