In Kilcoy, the Yowie statue’s theft made the local newspaper, and a longtime mayor of the surrounding Somerset region, Graeme Lehmann — who retired early this year — was quick to point the finger.

“You’d nearly say it’d have to be out-of-towners,” Lehmann told 【 - Free Access to Community 】 at the time. “I don’t think the locals would have tried to destroy some of their heritage. The Yowie’s been something that’s been an icon to Kilcoy for a long, long time.”
